ABOUT THE AMDC
History of the AMDC
The American Muslim Democratic Caucus is an outgrowth of the Texas Democratic Muslim Caucus (TMDC). Founded in 2004, the TMDC has been active in promoting Muslim American participation in various aspects of the Texas Democratic Party. Its' non-partisan arm, Texas Muslim Political Task Force (TMPTF) has conducted vigorous voter registration drives in Houston, San Antonio, Austin, and the Dallas Fort Worth Metroplex for over a year and a half.

As a result, the TMDC produced more than 150 Muslim Delegates to the 2008 Democratic State Convention plus alternates, numerous Precinct Chairs, and Election Judges from all over the state.

After the huge success of the Muslim Caucus at the July 2008 Texas State Democratic Convention, the Office of Howard Dean (chair of the Democratic National Convention), requested the TMDC to host a Muslim Caucus at the Democratic National Convention to be held in Denver, Colorado in August. TMDC moved to give birth to the American Muslim Democratic Caucus (AMDC), which is an accredited caucus within the Democratic National Convention. Muslim leaders from across the U.S. have joined efforts to host a luncheon for Muslim Delegates during the Convention.
